Automobili Lamborghini at Schloss Bensberg Classics 2011

Automobili Lamborghini will be participating in the Schloss Bensberg Classics in 2011 as well. In only a few years, this event showcasing the most important makes of classic cars has become a major happening in the auto world. The show will take place on September 16-18, 2011 against the exclusive backdrop of Bensberg castle. This year, Lamborghini will be presenting the 350 GT: the forerunner of its iconic series of cars that have met unparalleled success. The international public will also have the opportunity to view the new Aventador LP 700-4 super sports car.

On Saturday September 17, more than 90 classic vehicles will race through the Bergische Land hills as they compete in the Rallye Historique. And Automobili Lamborghini will be participating with its historic 350 GT. The car is named after its 3500 cc displacement. Introduced at the Geneva Motor Show in 1964, it boasted an engine which developed 320 HP even at that early stage. A total of 120 were produced from 1964 to 1966. The Lamborghini 350 GT with serial number one will participate in the rally. The drivers will be the journalist Magret Hucko and Lamborghini former test driver Valentino Balboni. Mr. Balboni was hired by Ferruccio Lamborghini himself and served as a test driver for more than 40 years.

Customers and private collectors can also bring their treasured vehicles to Bensberg. During the Concours d’Elégance – the gran finale of the Schloss Bensberg Classics, to be held on September 18 – a jury of important authorities will appraise 40 of the rarest and most beautiful cars in the world. One of the stars of this event will certainly be the Lamborghini Miura Roadster, a fascinating prototype from 1968. Also participating in the Concours d’Elégance at Bensberg will be the Lamborghini Espada. The first sports car in automotive history to seat four, the Espada was introduced at the Turin Auto Show in 1968. It can reach a top speed of 245 Km/h. At the Concours d’Elegance, you can also admire the 400 GT Monza, another very famous model from Lamborghini. This prototype was presented at the Barcelona Motor Show in 1966 and was then sold to a Spanish buyer after the show. No trace of the car was to be found for 35 years. In 2005, this Lamborghini was sold to its current owner at an auction.

The Lamborghini 350 GT comes from the Lamborghini museum in Sant’Agata Bolognese, where restored iconic vehicles produced by Lamborghini are on display. Guided tours through the Italian car maker’s super hi-tech factory are available. For further information, log on to www.lamborghini.com
