Giorgio Sanna & Davide Stancheris win the GT Cup class of the Italian GT Championship for Lamborghini in Austria

Sant’Agata Bolognese, Friday August 10. Giorgio Sanna, Lamborghini R&D & Lamborghini motorsport’s chief test driver, together with his partner Davide Stancheris enjoyed a successful weekend in the Italian GT Championship round at the Red Bull Ring in Austria last weekend, campaigning a Lamborghini Gallardo Super Trofeo in the GT Cup class.

Having qualified third for the first race on Saturday, the Lamborghini drivers finished just over two tenths of a second off the lead after thirty laps of close and competitive racing.

For Sunday’s race, it was a more dominant affair, with the Lamborghini drivers starting in pole and holding the lead to the flag, ahead of Alessandro Cicognani/Niccolò Granzotto (Porsche 997-Antonelli Motorsport) and Andrii Kruglyk/ Ruslan Tsyplakov (Ferrari 458 Italia-MU Motorsport).

The points haul has promoted Sanna/Stancheris into second place in the Cup standings.

Giorgio Sanna said, “The victory in race two was really positive, thanks to the great work of the team. However, it was difficult to accept the Ferrari 458 challenge in the championship without the performance equalisation, but we are confident the promoter will resolve this for the next race, where our focus will be on gaining more points for the overall Cup standings.

At the same race meeting, the Dutch partnership of Peter Kox and Nico Pronk contested the GT3 class with a GT3 Reiter Engineering-prepared Lamborghini Gallardo LP600, which they took to 10th and 5th place respectively at the Spielberg meeting.

Elsewhere last weekend at the British GT Championship meeting at Snetterton, Marco Attard and Hari Proczyk finished both of their races in ninth place with a Rhino´s Team Leipert Lamborghini Gallardo LP600.
