•Eighty years ago: Bernd Rosemeyer won the European Grand Prix Championship in an Auto Union Type C
•Twenty-five years ago: Frank Biela triumphed in an Audi V8 quattro DTM at the German Touring Car Masters
At this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed in Westhampnett, southern England, Audi Tradition will be participating with two historic cars: Nick Mason, the drummer of Pink Floyd, will be driving a reconstructed Auto Union Type C from 1936, while five-time Le Mans champion Frank Biela will be behind the wheel of an Audi V8 quattro DTM. Twenty-five years ago, Biela from Neuss in Germany, won the German Touring Car Masters title in this model. From 24th to 26th June, more than 200,000 spectators are expected to attend the Goodwood Festival of Speed, which is the annual highlight for fans of historic motor sports.

Popular drummer and car enthusiast Nick Mason will be taking the wheel for Audi Tradition for the ninth time at Goodwood. The Auto Union Type C was the most successful model of the Auto Union Silver Arrows before the Second World War. In 1936, the 560-hp six-cylinder developed by Ferdinand Porsche won the European Grand Prix Championship. Ever since then, the Type C has been inseparably associated with the name of Bernd Rosemeyer. The leading driver was almost unbeatable in that racing season.

Another participant at Goodwood is five-time Le Mans champion Frank Biela. Before making Audi racing history at the race track next to the River Sarthe, he won the German Touring Car Masters twenty-five years ago and the British Touring Car Championship twenty years ago. Biela will be driving a 1990 Audi V8 quattro DTM. This 462-hp-strong racing car was Audi’s debut vehicle at the German Touring Car Masters (DTM) in 1990 where it won the title upon its first attempt.
