Lamborghini op de Schloss Bensberg Classics

Lamborghini is gracing one of Europe’s best classic car events – the Bensberg Classics from September 10 to 12 – with an array of stunning super sports cars from across several different eras. Participating in the Rallye Historique are the 400 GT, one of Lamborghini’s first production vehicles, and the Miura P 400 SV, one of the most well-known super sports cars of all time. The 400 GT will be driven by the former Formula-1 pilot Jacky Ickx. Also appearing are the Silhouette from the 70s and the Gallardo LP 570-4 Superleggera, the latest model from Sant’Agata Bolognese.

Customers and private collectors, too, will also be bringing their treasures to Schloss Bensberg. One of the stars at the Concours d’Elegance on Sunday will surely be the Lamborghini Faena – a one-off from 1978. Carozzeria Frua extended the wheelbase of the successful Espada by 18 centimeters, thus creating space for a second pair of doors. This makes the Lamborghini Faena, which premiered at the 1978 Turin Auto Show, one of the forefathers of today’s four-door sports cars. The Faena is now in the care of a Swiss collector. Also in private hands, is the Lamborghini Countach LP 400, which will take part in the rally on Saturday.

Almost as famous as the Miura SV, is the man who will drive it in the rally – longstanding Lamborghini Chief Test Driver Valentino Balboni. The P 400 SuperVeloce was the last evolutionary stage of the legendary Miura twelve-cylinder mid-engine sports car, with output increased to 385 hp. 150 units were built between 1971 and 1973. The Lamborghini 400 GT 2+2 is from 1966, carries its 320 hp V12 up front and has a top speed of 270 km/h. The Silhouette from 1976 is one of the Lamborghini models to feature an eight-cylinder power unit. With its removable roof, it was conceived primarily for the American market. Only 54 units were ever built, making it one of the rarest models made in Sant’Agata Bolognese. The Miura, the 400 GT 2+2 and the Silhouette come from the museum of Automobili Lamborghini in Sant’Agata Bolognese, which exhibits over 30 cars. In 2009, more then 16.000 people from all over the world visited the museum.
