Lamborghini Super trofeo: Hayek And Kox Triumph In Race Two At Hockenheim

The #24 Blancpain Reiter Engineering car of Marc A. Hayek and Peter Kox claimed victory in the second race of the 2010 Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo event at Hockenheim, Germany, on 25 April 2010. Dutch Pro driver Kox gained the lead at the start, and the pair maintained their position for the remainder of the race to secure the win.

The #69 Lamborghini Super Trofeo race car of Saturday’s race winner, Touringauto driver Eugenio Amos, started from pole but fell back to third during the first lap. The #24 car took the lead, followed by the #1 Automobili Lamborghini VIP entry of Mario Fasanetto and Sebastian Asch. On lap 3 Fabio Babini in the #22 overtook Amos for third place.

Former Grand Prix driver and BBC commentator Martin Brundle made his Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo race debut on Sunday in the #2 Automobili Lamborghini VIP car, starting from 13th place on the grid. Brundle Senior charged through the field, gaining six positions by lap 10, when he pitted to hand over the wheel to his 19-year-old son, Alex.

The top three cars, #24, #1 and #22, all entered the pit lane on lap 14 for the mandatory pit stop and driver changes. The three cars exited in the same order, with the #1 car piloted by Asch running in second place and matching the pace of the #24 ahead, until a spin on lap 16 caused the Automobili Lamborghini entry to fall down the order to seventh place.

In the remaining seven laps, the #24 Blancpain Reiter Engineering car, now driven by Hayek, was maintaining a strong lead ahead of the Touringauto entry of race one winner Amos. Driving the #2 Automobili Lamborghini VIP Super Trofeo, Alex Brundle followed up his father’s charge through the ranks, rising to fourth place by lap 18.

Hayek crossed the line first to claim victory for Reiter Blancpain Engineering, followed by Amos in the #69, while the #3 Bonaldi Motorsport entry driven by Ferruccio Bellini completed the podium.

“It’s been a great start to the season for us,” said Marc A. Hayek, President and CEO of Blancpain. “We have started where we left off last season, so we’re continuing in good shape.”

Kox added: “The car’s performance is fantastic; Reiter Engineering have done a fantastic job. You should always have a goal in everything you do, and for us, our aim is the series title, so we’ve made a promising start.”

Race 3 of the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo at Hockenheim, Germany, will begin at 17:05 (CET) on Sunday 25 April 2010.
