After the eventful and dramatic second race weekend at Norisring, Germany, the world’s fastest one-make series, the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo, will travel to Spa-Francorchamps, Belgium, on 23-25 July 2009, for the seventh, eighth and ninth rounds of the season.

With tough competition and exciting racing, the series welcomes professional and ‘gentleman’ drivers to compete behind-the-wheel of the Super Trofeo race car, a derivative of the Gallardo LP 560-4 road car, equipped with Lamborghini permanent four-wheel drive and a V10 5.2 litre ‘Iniezione Diretta Stratificata’ engine.

Competitors include Fabio Babini and Claudio Rossetto of team Petri Corse, who have already secured three victories, and are prepared for the on-track battle at Spa. Their rivals include Marc A. Hayek, President and CEO of Blancpain, with team-mate and 24 Hours of Le Mans class winner Peter Kox, piloting the #24 570 hp race car. Dutch driver Kox has a busy schedule for the weekend, as he will also compete in the 24 Hours of Spa after completing the Super Trofeo weekend.

Also contesting are former Formula One test-driver, Marco Apicella, and 2004 Le Mans Endurance Series Champion, Alexander Frei, whilst Lamborghini Racing Eastern Europe will enter two Super Trofeo race cars with drivers Jarek Janiš, Petr Charouz, Niek Hommersoen and Louis Machiels.

“The Super Trofeo appearance at Spa, one of the most famous circuits in the world, is an important opportunity for the series,” said Lamborghini’s Director of Brand and Design, Manfred Fitzgerald. “The long and high-speed circuit of Spa will provide the perfect setting for the Super Trofeo race car to display its best features, and will be exciting for all the teams, drivers and fans.”
