De Italiaanse team Petri Corse heeft zijn zesde overwinning in de Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo serie, op 19 september op het Circuit de Catalunya in Spanje verovert.
Met nog een race wedstrijd te gaan leiden ze het klassement aan.

TITLE IN SIGHT FOR PETRI CORSE
Italian team Petri Corse secured its sixth victory in the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo series on 19 September at the Circuit de Cataluyna, Spain. Current Pro and Pro-Am Standings’ leaders, Fabio Babini and Claudio Rossetto claimed the round 13 win at the Spanish track after starting from pole.
Rossetto started behind-the-wheel of the #22 Petri Corse car for the first stint, but was passed by Reiter Engineering’s Marc A. Hayek and Bonaldi Motorsport’s Ferruccio Bellini before the first corner. However, the determined Italian was able to pass both for the lead before the end of the second lap.
Behind Rossetto, Bellini passed Hayek for second and began chasing for the lead. Fellow Bonaldi Motorsport driver Eugenio Amos was running in fourth, having had a strong start to improve his position from eighth on the grid.
Automobili Lamborghini VIP guest driver Jaime Hernandez, team-mate of former Formula One driver Ivan Capelli, was forced into retirement when his tyre blew on the start/finish straight, just before the opening of the pit window.
Having taken the wheel of the #24 from Hayek, Peter Kox managed to pass Bellini for second place. Unfortunately, as Bellini entered turn one he spun the #3, allowing Amos to pass for third.
Babini finished first with Kox claiming second and Amos third. Lamborghini Racing Eastern Europe’s Jarek Janiš, who inherited eighth place from team-mate Stephan Dostal at the drivers change, had improved the position of the #77 to fifth before passing Bellini to finish fourth.
The #63 of Autovitesse secured sixth, while the Super Trofeo’s first female driver, Christina Surer, claimed seventh place after team-mate Juan Collín started from 11th on the grid.
“I was worried about what might happen at the first corner because there was the possibility another driver might hit our car,” said Rossetto. “That didn’t happen, and although I was in third I was able to take second place and then the lead because the car was really quick. My thanks to Petri Corse, Pirelli and Lamborghini.”
Babini added: “Claudio drove very well in the opening laps. He didn’t push too hard, he stayed in second place for a while and then attacked and took the lead. In qualifying we weren’t totally satisfied with the set-up of the car because it had too much oversteer, but today it was perfect and we were fast everywhere.”
