Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo maakt zijnTsjechië debuut

The Super Trofeo race cars will take to the Czech track for the first time this weekend.
The world’s fastest one-make series, the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo, will make its Czech debut at Brno on 21-23 May 2010, for rounds four, five and six of the 2010 season.

Current Pro-Am and Pro drivers’ title leaders Marc A. Hayek and Peter Kox will again get behind-the-wheel of their #24 Blancpain Reiter Engineering Super Trofeo race car, a derivative of the road-going Gallardo LP 560-4. The pair claimed two race victories and a second-place finish three weeks ago at the first race weekend of the season in Hockenheim, Germany, and are aiming to extend their series lead in Brno.

Also contesting in the series is all Czech team Charouz-Gravity Racing, which is entering three V10 ‘Iniezione Diretta Stratificata’ powered cars. Among the drivers of this new team for 2010 is local hero and former-Formula One test driver Jarek Janiš, who secured third in the Super Trofeo Pro drivers’ standings in 2009 for team Lamborghini Racing Eastern Europe.

“We will have a slight advantage over the other teams as our drivers know the track inside out,” said Janiš. “However, some of our drivers are new to the series this season and are still learning about the Super Trofeo car, so that will even out the field and give us some very close racing.”

Meanwhile, another team that made its debut in Hockenheim, Black Bull Swiss Racing, will increase its involvement within the series by entering a second Super Trofeo race car, starting at the Czech rounds. Italian drivers Mirko Venturi and Tommaso Maino will pilot the #46 entry, while Pro-Am driver Andrea Invernizzi will take to the Czech track in the #23 Super Trofeo.

“We felt that we needed to enter a second car in the series to create a more competitive team,” said Lanfranco Casartelli, Black Bull Swiss Racing’s Team Manager. “Within the team we have a very experienced driver in Mirko, who will partner our new competitor Tommaso. We have spent a lot of time testing with Tommaso and he is a very precise and consistent driver, so we have great expectations for him. Our other driver, Andrea, has also shown a lot of promise and we feel that he is now strong enough to be competitive when driving alone.”

The two Automobili Lamborghini VIP race cars will be driven by esteemed motoring journalists Roger Green and John Barker on behalf of the UK’s EVO magazine, while Belgian GT driver and journalist Stéphane Lemeret, and Lamborghini test driver Giorgio Sanna, will complete the four guest drivers.

The Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo will support the FIA GT1 World Championship and FIA GT3 European Championship in Brno, with drivers competing in three 40-minute races and a 30-minute qualifying session during the three-day event.
