Lamborghini Super Trofeo Jarek Janiš eerste pole position

JANIŠ SECURES FIRST SUPER TROFEO POLE IN FRENCH HEAT

Jarek Janiš secured his first Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo pole position at Paul Ricard HTTT, France, on 2 July 2010. The Czech driver set the fastest lap time of 2:12.316 in the #77 Charouz-Gravity Racing Super Trofeo race car.

Pro Driver Janiš got behind the wheel of the #77 first and climbed to the top of the timesheets early in the session by setting a fastest lap of 2:13.205. His closest challenge in the opening minutes came from Fabio Babini in the #22 MIK Corse entry. The #77 and #22 traded places on the screens as their lap times kept improving until nine minutes into the session when reigning Pro Drivers’ Champion Babini set a fastest lap of 2:12.631 and get the better of the #77 race car.

Babini’s time was strong enough to hold onto the top spot for the next 10 minutes of the

30-minute session until Janiš pitted for a fresh set of Pirelli tyres. The Czech driver improved his fastest lap time to 2:12.316 to secure Charouz-Gravity Racing’s first pole position. Janiš’ team-mate Jan Urban will start from pole tomorrow for round seven of the 2010 calendar.

Towards the end of the session Mirko Venturi charged around the French circuit to set a fastest lap of 2:12.500 in the #46 Black Bull Swiss Racing entry, putting him second on the timesheets. Babini set the third fastest time of 2:12.631 to allow team-mate Albert von Thurn und Taxis to line up third on the grid, while Jarek Janiš’ brother Erik set the fourth fastest lap time of 2:12.890 in the #99 entry.

France’s former goalkeeper and 1998 FIFA World Cup Champion Fabien Barthez with team-mate Anthony Beltoise qualified seventh for their first Super Trofeo race in the #2 Automobili Lamborghini VIP car. Meanwhile, former Ferrari Formula One pilot Stefan Johansson set the eighth fastest lap time to put

team-mate Peter Wyss on the fourth row of the grid.

“I managed to get a clean run with no traffic so I could get the best out of the car and the tyres,” said Janiš. “Tyre pressure is the key to this weekend as it is extremely hot and the track is abrasive. I’m also very happy for my brother Erik, who managed to get the fourth fastest time!”

“It’s great to see a different team on pole position,” said Manfred Fitzgerald, Director of Brand and Design for Lamborghini. “Charouz-Gravity Racing is on strong form this weekend: their impressive performance reinforces the competitiveness of the series.”

Round seven of the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo will start at 13.05 (CET) on 2 July 2010 at Paul Ricard HTTT, France, partnering the FIA GT1 World Championship.
